Shuffle step

Did this off of a gif that someone did of Chell from portal. I'm pretty darn happy with this, for all that it's the first one out of the gate--looking forward to doing more :D

two drawings, three paintings, and some text

I bought a sketchbook not from barnes and noble for the first time the other day. Plus some new pencils. This is me, trying things out, and I am super happy with this. Also this one, the first sketchbook with brown paper that has a texture that I'm happy with:

I know that I haven't been talking a lot about my work when upload it recently, and that's for a very good reason: I'm a bit lost with it. It happens to us all, and if you're someone who's just getting into art, be prepared for that. My solution in the past has always been to just keep painting, because I've had a consistent intellectual underpinning to unify my body of work.

The difference this time has been that my problem is with that intellectual underpinning. I'm not sure what I'm painting about anymore. Drawing doesn't have that same stress. I love them both, but a sketch is, well, it's just a sketch. If it turns out well, then you're double winning.

Hm...I don't think I'm gonna be able to talk about this coherently without putting up my three latest pieces. Have some more instagram, errybody:

Text is back, baby!

And then I went to class and completely forgot what I was going to say here. For sure, the concluding remark was going to be something like: 'gotta keep working, will figure it out' which is true so we'll just go straight to that.

Three paintings, one color scheme

What can I say? I churned them all out pretty quick, so that happens sometimes.

"This painting brought to you by the letter H"

"It's a painting of a flower, stop thinking so hard"

And this last one I haven't named yet, though I did upload it to a few places with the caption 'squarish things in squarish things' so I might end up calling it "Squarish" or "Ish"

EVEN MORE PAINTINGS (except one is a bit older)

My tablet decided to turn off and never turn on again the other day, so we'll be hitting the traditional painting pretty exclusively for the next week or so.

Fortunately, I've got two more for you that I hadn't shared yet.

This one would actually be more at home with the last set. It's maybe the second or third traditional piece that I did this semester. This was actually the first time that I've done a painting directly from a drawing in....gosh, ages. I didn't draw the model's eyes in the original and then tried to add ridiculous anime eyes, but they just ended up...working. Unfair.

Talk about lost in translation. In addition to oil paint, this one also has three layers of resin on it with different things sandwiched between them (gesso and walnut ink on the first, acrylic and india ink on the second.) The bright blue and orange were done in oil after I put down a layer of acrylic gloss medium on top of the final layer of resin. The bottom layer you may remember from two posts ago:
